Booking Hall Cabinets: Foxes by Richard Boardman

At an early age Wivenhoe artist Richard W. Boardman was exposed to the rich use of animal imagery in Russian folk stories. He trained at both the Colchester School of Art and the Central School of Art & Design, London. His main interest continues to be in animal forms, some of which combine mythical elements. Intrinsic to every work is his sense of humour which is evident in the two pieces exhibited in Wivenhoe Station. The two foxes are cut-outs in plywood and maquettes for possible future work in metal or bronze. To see further examples of work please go to website: www.rwbpl.com.

  Silk Scarves by Jane Ostler

These two silk scarves were made on a whim.  One is about the sea and has Poseidon or Neptune in the center of the design, a ‘rock-pool God”, holding his trident like a guitar.  The other is about the sky, with a ‘comet woman’ lifting her arms up to space, made of the same atoms as her body.

About Jane Ostler:
"I was born in Tonbridge in 1958. I studied at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham 1976-1980 and Goldsmiths, London 1983-5.  In 1987 I was Printmaker in Residence at Peterborough General Hospital. My husband Paul and I moved to Essex with our three young children in 1996.  In 2003 I was Artist in Residence for National AIDS DAY at Colchester Borough Council and since 2007 I have worked as Art Development Officer at the Level Best ArtCafe, Colchester. My art studio is a small space in the back of our garage.   I work on large paintings in the garden in summer when the weather permits."

'Mermaid' and 'Grazing Sheep' by C.McKissock

These two pieces are made using an ancient Rag Rug technique. This is the ultimate recycling craft: nearly any old material can be cut into strips and pushed or pulled through hessian to form a ‘rug’. Here this ancient craft is used as an art form to create wall hangings or jewellery etc. Contact cmckissock@aol.com if you want to learn more about making a rag rug.
